Born on the Wrong Side of the Pond

Today would be the day to let you know that I am a complete Anglophile. I am not however an early morning person, so I tuned in to the royal wedding at 7:00 am EDT, just in time to see Will and Kate exiting Westminster. Well, I haven't turned off BBC America since, so though I've been busy doing commoner-ish things like mopping the floors, I've gotten the gist of their big day and have the whole thing dvr'd to watch the juicy bits undistracted later.

With impeccable timing, this tea towel that I ordered from Old Ohio Farm Finds, a fellow Ohio Etsy vintage seller, arrived this morning. It's destined for the spare bedroom, I do believe, which I'm in the process of adorning the walls of. I hope to show you it and more of the house in the next couple of weeks as I finish off some nagging decor-ing projects.

So congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge! I do believe it's nearly time to turn off the telly and go out in search of some bubbly!

Easters Past

I am lucky to have a great collection of postcards that were sent to my great grandmother during the first and second decades of the 20th century when she was a young single lady, then a young wife and mother.

Not only sent by friends and family from places visited, they also commemorate holidays and other momentous occasions and many were just sent to say hello and catch up.  

And unlike today's emails and texts, they're actually pretty to look at! So while waiting to get my recently purchased Etsy art back from the framer's so I can start a little over-the-couch gallery, I decided to string some Easter greetings up along with some guinea fowl feathers from the craft store.

Nice and spring-y, no?

Ode to Curly Willow

I purchased this lovely bunch of curly willow at Whole Foods over a month ago and I've been meaning to do a post on it pretty much ever since. Because after I brought it home and plunked it in a vase of water it quickly went from being a sculptural bunch of twigs,

to a gorgeous, leafy, green plant complete with an insane root system.

So I began to imagine it spending the summer on the screened-in porch in a classic little urn, happily coexisting with a little bit of sheet moss. I found the urn (at Target) and potted it up last week. Three days later all the leaves had shriveled up and it was officially on its way to the compost heap. Apparently it was hydroponically inclined. (Below pic was taken just post-potting.)

Oh well. I purchased it looking for something that would last a bit longer than your average bunch of flowers and it definitely filled that bill. RIP curly willow. 

On the bright side, now I get to decide what to refill the urn with!

Is it Happy Hour Yet?

Greg has been at a conference in Detroit all this week. But he'll be home tomorrow around 3:00. Just in time to head out for drinks and nosh. Hooray!

Although we've lived in Columbus for nine months now, we just made it to the Grandview neighborhood, just northwest of downtown (technically, like Worthington, it's a city unto itself surrounded by Columbus), for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We had reservations at another restaurant, but we stopped into Third and Hollywood for cocktails and an appetizer. So good, we were back last weekend. Cocktails are wonderful, made with real, fresh ingredients (ginger mojito = ♥). Food is delish. This caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had and the cheddar herb biscuits in the background were so naughtily yummy. They have good craft beer on tap too. And the service is stellar. 

I know we'll be back soon. Like maybe tomorrow!

Sampler Sample

This is one of three super cute cross stitch samplers I picked up at a church sale a couple of weeks ago. Going into the Little Green Vintage Shop soon. And I've got a small lot of various other treasures to add, just need some actual sunshine in my house to do photography!

Bea-utiful Afternoon

Back in January we had to have the main water line to our house replaced and, as a result, ever since we had a big, ugly area of bare dirt running from the flower bed to the curb. Until today! Fresh sod and it's like it never happened. Just in time for the daffs to bloom.

And it got up to somewhere around 65 today! Which makes toiling away outside on a project much easier to endure. (Will elaborate soon.)

Franklin Park Conservatory

My dad is in town for a visit and yesterday afternoon we went to the Franklin Park Conservatory. It's a great place to go for some horticulture therapy when spring is taking its sweet time. They also have a really nice collection of blown glass by Dale Chihuly. 

Bonsai trees never cease to amaze me.

 There are several climates represented within, from tropical rainforest to desert.

These beauties were somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 to 50 years of age! What's really amazing though is just how gorgeous they are given how relatively small their root systems must be.

There is currently a butterfly exhibit going on in the Pacific Island Water Garden. Hundreds of live butterflies flitting about.

And koi to boot. I think I've mentioned I ♥ koi.

There is also a lovely gift shop with a greenhouse full of specimens to bring home. Somehow I refrained, though I absolutely love this type of begonia. 

On the home horticulture front, this afternoon I noticed peony shoots poking out of the ground. Got to be a good sign warmer weather isn't too far away.
